CalMac Ferries

CalMac is recruiting multiple Port Assistants for Oban in seasonal roles running until October 2026, offering £14.34 an hour plus enhanced rates for unsociable hours and overtime.

You will be part of a frontline team that keeps Scotland’s lifeline ferry services moving, helping islanders, visitors and commercial partners travel safely and smoothly.

You will start some days early to meet the first arrivals, and finish others later to see the final vessel away, with a shift pattern that includes weekends, bank holidays and evenings.

You will provide fast and friendly ticket sales, support customers with enquiries and help them find the right options when plans change.

You will process cash and card payments accurately and keep ticketing information up to date in the system.

You will record sailing statistics and help keep operations running smoothly.

You will help moor vessels safely and support pier operations, working with the deck and port teams to keep turnaround tight and efficient.

You will carry out routine maintenance and cleaning to keep the port safe, tidy and welcoming.

You will operate equipment such as forklifts and vans once trained and follow all safety procedures with care.

You will marshal vehicles, direct traffic during boarding and disembarkation and support passenger safety across the port environment.

You will monitor the pier area, respond to incidents and uphold standards that keep people and property safe.

CalMac offers a competitive package including thirty seven days annual leave pro rata, industry leading pension, extensive training and development, and a staff travel pass for you, your partner and your dependents.

You will need strong communication skills, a positive attitude, accuracy in your work and the confidence to stay calm and helpful when things get busy.

You will need reliable daily access to Oban Terminal, including the ability to arrive for a five o’clock start when required.

You will receive full uniform, PPE and role specific training before you begin.

This is a chance to join one of Scotland’s most recognisable organisations, working in a fast moving environment where no two days look the same.

Closing date for applications is 15 December 2025.
