Raasay House Hotel and Outdoor Activities
At Raasay House we are no ordinary hotel. We are a not-for-profit organisation located within a community-owned building on one of Scotland’s most beautiful small islands.
Since our beginnings in 1984 as an outdoor activity operator, we have grown into a 23-room hotel with a bar, restaurant, and are a thriving activity provider for both holiday clients and school groups. Although our season primarily runs from April to October, we operate year-round, and our team grows and shrinks in tandem with the rhythm of island life.
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Finance Manager to take responsibility for all financial operations of the business. This role is ideal for someone who understands the workings of a medium-sized hotel, hospitality operation, or community enterprise – and who enjoys working in a setting where people, place, and purpose matter as much as numbers.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Preparing draft annual accounts for our external accountants
- Producing monthly management accounts for Directors, including comparison to forecasts
- Preparing and updating annual forecasts throughout the year
- Managing bank accounts and financial controls
- Preparing payroll information for submission to our accountants
- Completing and submitting quarterly VAT returns.
Experience with these tools is helpful, but not essential – we value methodical thinking, accuracy, and a willingness to learn just as much.
What We’re Looking For
- Someone reliable, organised, and financially confident
- A professional who can work independently and communicate clearly
- A long-term team member – ideally ready to stay with us for at least five years.
- An individual comfortable balancing remote work with time on-site.
- Someone looking to live rurally in the Highlands of Scotland
We would like the Finance Manager to be on-site one day per week, depending on the time of year/workload, though this is flexible.
We also have the availability to live on-site for this role, and the opportunity to take on other duties and turn this into a full-time position with you, as you would require.
Hours & Salary
- Minimum 15 hours per week, with potential to expand the role
- £31,000–£35,000 FTE, depending on experience
- Flexibility in scheduling, on-site expectations, and total weekly hours
- Option to expand to full-time for the right candidate
