Dundee Satellite Station Ltd
Dundee Satellite Station Ltd is recruiting Technicians to support its new Satellite Ground Station facility near Thurso, as the company expands to meet growing customer demand within Scotland’s space sector.
This is a unique opportunity to join a small, specialist team working at the cutting edge of satellite ground station operations, combining home based remote monitoring with planned and reactive site visits.
The role
The majority of the role involves remotely monitoring ground station operations from home using secure company systems, with a company supplied laptop and mobile phone. Monitoring is normally carried out during standard 9am to 5pm hours on allocated working days.
You will also remotely supervise lone working colleagues via CCTV, carry out scheduled site visits for inspections and routine maintenance, and provide on site support for contractors or operational issues when required. Scheduled site visits are typically once per week during weekday working hours.
As part of a small technical team, there will be occasions where urgent site attendance is required to respond to alarms. While infrequent, this may occur outside normal working hours, including evenings or weekends. During allocated on call days, you will be expected to remain close to home to meet the company’s one hour alarm response commitment.
Working pattern
Roles may be offered on a full time basis at 37.5 hours per week, part time, or a mixture of both. The company is open to discussing suitable working patterns with candidates, provided overall site coverage requirements are met.
Some weekend working and flexibility to cover colleagues during holidays or sickness will be required, reflecting the nature of a small, dedicated team.
What we are looking for
Applicants should have practical experience in a technical or engineering environment and be comfortable working independently. An HND or equivalent qualification in an electrical or engineering discipline is preferred, though candidates with relevant hands on experience, including mechanical apprenticeships or a UK armed services background, will be considered.
Basic IT skills are essential, with full training provided on company monitoring systems. A driving licence and access to a vehicle are preferred.
Applicants must live within 25 miles of Thurso, as this is a non negotiable requirement due to alarm response obligations. Successful candidates will also need to pass all required background checks.
What is on offer
You will join a management owned company operating within Scotland’s growing space industry, contributing to meaningful and technically interesting projects. The role offers flexibility, responsibility, and the chance to work with specialist systems in a sector with long term growth potential.
