Serco Maritime Services is looking for a full time Vessel Engineer to join their professional multi skilled team operating on the Raasay Ranges out of BUTEC in Kyle of Lochalsh. This is a permanent post working a 6 weeks on / 3 weeks off rota.
Serco operates a fleet of specialist vessels that support a wide range of maritime activity including dive support, military training, submarine rescue exercises, equipment deployment and recovery and passenger transfers.
You will have overall responsibility for the operational condition and maintenance of all machinery and electrical equipment on board and you will ensure the vessel remains safe, reliable and efficient at all times.
You will consult daily with the Master to maximise economy and performance and you will report promptly on any issue that may affect navigation or essential services.
You will support full compliance with Oil and Environmental Pollution Prevention legislation and ensure all officers remain familiar with emergency procedures and capable of operating all safety and pollution prevention systems.
You will maintain detailed knowledge of the vessel’s construction, machinery and operating characteristics and you will be responsible for the overall configuration and condition of all systems and equipment.
You will keep accurate records of all labour and contractor work, confirm daily usage and remaining quantities of bunkers, lubricants and water, and supervise all bunkering and transfers of fuel, lube oil, ballast and fresh water.
You will manage planned maintenance, routine repairs and emergency work to ensure minimal disruption to the vessel’s programme.
You will inspect machinery and engine spaces regularly, oversee the quality of contractor work and maintain all engine room stores, spares, inventories and orders in line with company procedures.
You will also manage Classification Society survey requirements for both hull and machinery.
You will be on standby when entering or leaving port, in confined waters or as required by the Master or by trials.
You will ensure that propulsion related orders from the bridge are carried out promptly.
You will work fully within the company Safety Management System including permit to work, tag out systems, shipboard safety committees and watertight integrity requirements.
You will give and receive full handovers when joining or leaving the vessel.
Essential requirements:
• Certificate of Competence as SMEO (minimum)
• STCW Personal Survival Techniques (5 year refresher)
• STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (5 year refresher)
• STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (5 year refresher)
• STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft (5 year refresher)
• STCW Elementary First Aid
• Unrestricted ENG1
• Passport
