Highland Jobs is a regional job board owned and operated by The Highland Times.
We provide a platform for employers to post roles and for candidates to discover and apply.

What we collect

We collect different data depending on how you use the site.

From employers
• Contact and account details.
• Company information and billing details.
• Job listing content including title, description, salary, and location.
• Payment status from our payment provider.
• IP address and basic device data for security.

From candidates and visitors
• Account details and application content when you apply on the site.
• Contact messages you send to us.
• Usage data for analytics such as pages viewed and rough location.
• Cookie consent choices.

We do not store full card numbers. Payments run on our provider’s systems.

Why we use your data and the lawful basis

• To create and manage your account. Basis is contract.
• To publish job listings and handle applications. Basis is contract.
• To take payment and issue invoices. Basis is contract and legal obligation.
• To send service messages about your account, orders, and listings. Basis is contract and legitimate interests.
• To keep the site secure and prevent abuse. Basis is legitimate interests.
• To run basic analytics and improve the service. Basis is legitimate interests.
• To send optional marketing where you opt in. Basis is consent.

You can withdraw consent at any time. Service messages will still arrive where needed to run your account.

How applications work

If you apply through Highland Jobs, we share your application with the employer for that role.
If a listing sends you to an external site, that site’s privacy policy applies from that point.

Sharing data

We do not sell your data. We share it only with:
• Service providers who run hosting, email, analytics, backups, and payments.
• Employers when you apply to their roles.
• Authorities where the law requires it.

All providers are bound by contract to protect your data and use it only for our service.

International transfers

Some providers may be outside the UK or EEA. Where that happens we use a lawful safeguard such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep data

• Accounts and profiles: for as long as your account is active.
• Job listings: for the life of the listing plus audit and tax periods.
• Orders and invoices: six years to meet legal duties.
• Applications: for the hiring process and a short period after unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
• Logs and backups: short, rolling periods for security and recovery.

Your rights

You can ask us to:
• Give you a copy of your data.
• Correct or delete your data.
• Restrict or object to certain processing.
• Provide a portable copy of data you gave to us.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. See ico.org.uk. Please email us first so we can try to fix the issue quickly.
